Home About me

Who am I?

Born and raised on a beautiful ranch north of Krugersdorp in the Transvaal province (now Gauteng), South Africa, I left my motherland in 1988 to explore the world after enjoying seven years of student life at the University of Johannesburg and the University of Pretoria.

My first stop was Toronto, Canada, where I spent almost nine years exploring Canada and the USA – from east to west, and south to north, including all corners and in-between!

In 1996, I moved to Hong Kong – the heartbeat of Asia and one of my favourite cities in the world! Home is also in Thailand, and Japan is next. I am lucky to be able to live wherever I feel the happiest – Asia remains my favourite region on earth.

I’ve been in consumer research for many years, including being a Managing Director of a division of Nielsen (ACNielsen) – the world’s largest business information and consulting firm. Nowadays I specialise in digital media and advertising insights. I hold a doctorate (PhD) in Marketing from Sweden, another of my favourite countries where I spent a fair bit of time. If you are a researcher, take a look at my business statistics page and my academic publications (apologies—my website host, BlueHost, recently accidentally deleted this entire website, they can’t find any backup, and blamed me for not having my own backup!).

Increasingly, I try to take life easy and enjoy the beauty around me, and in faraway places. Life is way too short to just work all the time. Soon I’ll be off to another exotic location, but if you can’t come along, don’t despair. I travel so you can see the world. I’ll have my latest magazine coming out soon, so you can see exactly what I saw and use it to plan your next adventure…

A bit of useless info about me: Up to Dec 2019 I have spent over 3,100 hours on planes, have flown on 107 airlines, and have seen over 178 live music concerts 🙂

Visit my travel blog and read my magazines at GlobeRovers Magazine website, or in the menu above at Magazine. The best way to view the magazines is to download for free from the Google Play store. Apple/iPhone no longer hosts my app due to high cost – very high!

PEACE!

What is the difference between travellers and tourists?
Tourists are clueless about their travel statistics.

About GlobeRovers

GlobeRovers was created in Hong Kong in 1997 during the handover of Hong Kong to China.

Roving the Globe, intrepidly, GlobeRovers follows the off-the-beaten-track route to bring you destinations you may know little about.

In addition to GlobeRovers Travel Blog, visit the GlobeRovers Magazine website to view all magazines for free. Order a printed magazine by visiting BLURB.COM and search for “globerovers”.

While I focus on intrepid destinations, sometimes you may find me in Paris, Tokyo, and other well-trodden places. I just love some variety.

MY MISSION

To bring the world to intrepid travellers.

MY MOTTO

GlobeRovers travels so you can see the world.
