The people of Denmark rank among the world’s most happy people. It is easy to see why when you visit their capital city. Copenhagen and its beautiful surrounding areas is a buzzing city that mixes royalty, historical and modern architecture, and loads of culture, with sustainable living and a vast restaurant scene.
Copenhagen has one of the oldest monarchies in the world with a history tracing back to the age of the Vikings. History and historic buildings are everywhere in Copenhagen where cobblestone streets, palaces, and royal artefacts make for a beautiful backdrop to the modern life lived by the people of modern-day Copenhagen.
Hamlet exclaimed: “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark“.
But that is no longer true!
Copenhagen is divided into several diverse, yet equally loveable neighbourhoods, each with their own vibes and looks. From the gritty and industrial Refshaleøen, home to the Burmeister & Wain shipyard until 1996, to the posh and classy Frederiksberg with its Italianate Frederiksberg Palace, Copenhagen has a neighbourhood to fit any visitor’s liking.
While there is a heap of the best places to see in Copenhagen where you will be spoilt for choice once you arrive, we focused on photographing just a few: The buildings along Nyhavn Canal, Christiansborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, Amalienborg Palace, Trinitatis Church, St. Alban’s Church, the Stock Exchange, and a lot more.
